Why Phonics Still Matters for Older Struggling Readers
When pupils reach secondary school unable to read fluently, the issue is rarely a lack
Our mission is to unlock reading success by equipping older struggling readers with a fully digital phonics intervention. This is designed for older pupils who can’t yet read confidently using clear, step-by-step phonics teaching so that literacy becomes a right, not a barrier.
Our online reading intervention program works to bridge the attainment gap and propel children towards functional literacy through engaging, age appropriate texts that are reflective of their interests and real life experiences.
Read Revive began with two SEN specialist teachers, bringing together over 30 years of combined experience. We met while working in a specialist provision for pupils whose primary needs were communication and interaction, where we quickly noticed a shortage of age-appropriate resources we could confidently use with older pupils who had not yet learned to read. This sparked a shared mission to challenge why systematic phonics so often stops being taught once pupils leave primary school. From that mission, and a determination to do better for these learners, Read Revive was born.
We will offer a bespoke pricing plan tailored to each learner’s needs following a client consultation; due to the fact that we work with a variety of providers across different countries and cover a wide range of educational settings, our pricing model varies based on need and the number of learners.
We provide bespoke training tailored to a wide range of needs and settings, ensuring support that is practical, relevant, and impactful. Our flexible approach allows us to deliver training either in person or online, making it accessible for foster homes, care homes, schools, and other care-based environments. We also work with schools and homes overseas, supporting pupils who are learning English or who have English as a second language. By working closely with each organisation, we adapt our content to reflect real-world challenges, empowering teams and learners with the knowledge and confidence they need to make a meaningful difference.
At Read Revive, we believe that nurturing young minds and protecting our planet go hand in hand. That’s why we’re proud to announce our partnership with the National Forest — a collaboration rooted in sustainability, education, and positive change.
